Municipality of Mokronog–Trebelno

Mokronog - Trebelno ( Mokronog to German: Nassenfuß ) is a municipality in the Lower Carniola region of Slovenia.

Location and population

In the overall community consisting of 43 villages and hamlets 2948 people live. The main town Mokronog has 700 inhabitants. The municipality is located north of Novo mesto in the Valley of Mirna.

History

Mokronog was mentioned in 1137 for the first time. In 1279 the settlement was granted market rights. The town's name derives from the wet feet that you get because the water table is so high and the basement is constantly flooded.

1256 this Mokronog castle Castrum Nazenfuez was first mentioned in documents. An earthquake and the peasant revolts destroyed the castle in the Middle Ages. The counts of Krško built it afterwards as a residential palace on. In the 2nd World War it was burnt by the partisans and badly damaged. Today only ruins are.
