Municipality of Komenda

Komenda (German: " Coming Saint Peter" ) is a town with almost 6000 inhabitants in the center of Slovenia 5km west of Kamnik and 25 km north of Ljubljana, Carniola ( Upper Carniola). In the village itself Komenda live 897 inhabitants (2012), the largest settlements are Komenda and musts.

The center of the municipality is the village of Komenda Komenda with the parish church of St. Peter.

History

The parish church of St. Peter was in 1147 for the first time mentioned in ( v Sv Peter Gozdu / St. Petersburg in the forest ). At the end of the 13th century, the Order of Malta has settled ( Commendam St. Peter ). The village was, inter alia, for Corpus Christi processions with horses known (see JJ Valvasor: The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola ). The Maltese have promoted horse breeding in Komenda and in the environment. This tradition has been preserved until today ( Hippodrome, Horse Racing, Horse Riding Club ).

The present baroque church was built in 1727. The church square was designed and built before the Second World War by the architect Jožef Plečnik.

Economy

The community is now dominated by agriculture.

Most economically active residents commute daily to work in Kamnik, Kranj, Domžale and Ljubljana. Recently, a new economic zone Žeje was opened near the Ljubljana - Kranj on the border with community Vodice.
