Municipality of Litija
Litija ( German: Littai ) is a municipality in the Lower Carniola region of Slovenia.
Location and population
In the overall community consisting of 106 villages and hamlets 14,698 people live. The town has 6,420 inhabitants and is located Litija east of Ljubljana in the valley of the Save.

History and Sights
Until 1965, this was the mine Sitarjevec in operation. In the 19th century it was one of the largest lead mines in Europe. Even the Illyrians, Celts and Romans use this, and operated mining. In Litija there is also a museum which traces the history of mining and the ferry and boat operation on the Sava significantly.
1882 was found in the district Vače a valuable, valued at 2,500 Years, bronze vessel. This vessel has also been incorporated into the coat of arms.
In place Litija the monument of the National Liberation Struggle of the architect Jože Plečnik is worth seeing. Southeast of Slovenia Litija is the best preserved castle. It is one of the most important cultural monuments in Slovenia. The castle was founded in 1533 Bogenšperk mentioned as a castle Wagensberg first written. In 1672 they bought the polymath Vajkard Valvasor. His work can still be seen today.
In Konjšica is the burial site of the conductor Carlos Kleiber.
