Kryštofovy Hamry

Kryštofovy Hamry ( German Christoph Hammer) is a municipality with a population of 85 in the Czech Republic. It is situated in 680 m asl in the Ore Mountains below the dam at the Preßnitz Preßnitz. The place is located right on the German border at Schmalzgrube and belongs to the Okres Chomutov on. Two kilometers south-east lies the 993 m high Jelení hora ( Haßberg ), the highest mountain in the area.

History

At the beginning of the 15th century 26 hammer mills were around Preßnitz outlets, including even one in the village, which was destroyed during the Hussite Wars. Only the chief mining of Jachymov, Christoph Graf von Grünberg, 1621 was again a factory built, the hammer of Saint Christopher. This included a blast furnace, two forges, mill, sawmill and a pond.
