Krzysztof Wilmanski

Krzysztof Wilmanski ( born March 1, 1940 in Łódź, Poland, † August 26, 2012 in Berlin) was a Polish- German physicist who did research in the areas of continuum mechanics and thermodynamics.

Scientific career

Krzysztof Wilmanski made ​​in 1957 at the T. Kosciuszko School in Łódź graduated from high school and studied until 1962 Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Łódź. In 1965 he was awarded a doctorate in the field of continuous modeling of discrete systems. In 1970 he qualified as a professor at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw ( Area: Nonlocal continuum mechanics). For this work he was awarded the MT Huber price. In 1979 he was appointed by the Polish State professor. This year, he was also a Humboldt Fellow in Germany. 1984/85 he was a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study Berlin. From 1996 to 2005 he headed the research group continuum mechanics at the Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics in Berlin. From 2005 to 2010 he was professor of mechanics at the University of Zielona Góra. In 2006 he was awarded the Lady Davis award at the Technion in Israel. In addition, he was a faculty member of the ROSE School, Centre for Post - Graduate Training and Research in Pavia.

  • Thermodynamics of porous materials and in particular of poroelastic materials with large distortion and modeling of porous materials with a balance equation for porosity.
