The Kufra airport (English: Kufra Airport ) is an airport in the Kufra oasis in Libya.
Location
The airport is located east of Kufra oases.
Airfield characteristics
The Tower ( TWR ) sends and receives on the frequency: 121.9 MHz. The airport has several navigation aids. The non-directional beacon ( NDB ) transmits on the frequency: 317 kHz with code KFR. The omnidirectional radio range (VOR) transmits on frequency: 113.2 MHz with code KFR. A distance measuring equipment (DME ) is available. The local magnetic declination is 2 ° East / West. (As of 2006)
According to ASN two incidents at the airport are known.
- On 26 August 2008, a Boeing 737-200 of the Sudanese Sun Air with 95 passengers and seven crew members were kidnapped here. In this case, no occupants were killed. The aircraft was on a domestic flight Sudan, Nyala ( UYL ) to Khartoum ( KRT).
- In December 1975 an Antonov 12B shot of the Balkan Bulgarian Airlines beyond the runway and was thereby causing irreparable destroyed.
