The station Kufstein is a German -Austrian border station in the center of Kufstein.

Location

The station marks the end or the beginning of the railway line Rosenheim - Kufstein and the Unterinntalbahn.

History

In 1858 the railway line Rosenheim - Kufstein -Innsbruck was opened in 1876, the Kufstein railway station was built in 1980 completely replaced by a modern building for its time. The station serves as a border station between ÖBB and DB.

The station facilities were completely rebuilt in the early 1980s, the pedestrian bridge in the district of Zell was moved a few hundred meters to the south.

A few years ago a park-and- ride facility was on the west side of the station created and built lifts to the platforms. The platforms in Kufstein count of more than 740 meters, the longest in Austria.

Although the station until now has never been a node ( although several projects are well advanced ), nevertheless we can indirectly call him a point because though Inner Austrian trains along the route until shortly before the station Rosenheim, but then turn on the Rosenheim curve to Salzburg without making a stop in Germany (so-called corridor trains).

Euro City or Intercity trains run at least every hour to Innsbruck and then turn on to Bregenz, in Switzerland or Italy, and at least every two hours to Munich and Vienna Westbahnhof. Furthermore, there are other features such as an express train to Zell am See or various special trains and City Night Line routes to Belgium, Denmark, northern Germany and the Netherlands.

From the station take many regional and city buses, taxis are accessible to a large taxi rank outside the station.

Future

In cooperation with the Municipality of Kufstein and the Stadtwerke Kufstein ÖBB will make the station forecourt (Südtirolerplatz ) new - a concept is still being developed.

From the timetable change in December 2007 there will be a ÖBB € Kufstein City for two years - give Pearl of Tyrol, which runs from Wien Westbahnhof to Innsbruck.

Currently, the new Unterinntaltrasse between Kundl and tree churches being built and will be built in a few years between Wörgl and Kufstein and between Kufstein and Brann castle.
