Kumdo

Kumdo ( Gumdo also, etc.) is a Korean sword martial arts. Historically, it originated, according to the main body of the Kumdo, the Korea Kumdo Association, on the kendo. Behind the use of the term " Kumdo " instead of " kendo " and the renaming of the target areas in Korean terms is translated into the local language. Geom mean sword, just like the Japanese term Ken.

Korea was from 1910 to 1945 a part of the Japanese Empire. Towards the end of the 19th century, a precursor of kendo ( Gekiken ) was introduced in Korea. Since the early 1920s, one speaks of Geomdo.

The hit areas are the same as in kendo: forehead, abdomen flanks, wrists and neck.

There are no separate forms ( kata), practiced, therefore, the Kendokata. For Korean Danprüfungen dominate the Nihon Kendo Kata is necessary, so this is taught and practiced in Korean Geomdo Dojang.

Geomdo fighters also compete in kendo competitions, because it 's all pretty much the same martial art.
