Kunigunde of Sternberg

Cunegonde von Sternberg (Czech: ze Kunhuta Šternberka ) ( born November 18, 1425 Konopischt, † November 19, 1449 in Podiebrad ), was the first wife of the later Bohemian King George of Podiebrad.

Life

Kunigunde parents were Bohemian nobles Smil von Sternberg († 1431) and Barbara of Pardubice († 1433 ). 1441 married the then 21 -year-old George of Podiebrad, who was since 1440 the captain of the Bunzlauer circle. This marriage produced sons

  • Boček (1442-1496)
  • Viktorin (1443-1500) and
  • Henry the Elder (1448-1498)

And the daughters

  • Barbara (1446-1474) married, first with Henry of Lipa ( Lipa Jindřich z, † 1469 ), 2nd Jan Křinecký of Ronow
  • Cunegonde (Katharina ) ( 1449-1464 ) and
  • Zdenka (1449-1510)

1444 donated Cunegonde in Podiebrad a hospital, which was named after her, and operated until the early 20th century. In addition, she established a foundation for youth education, school construction and integration of prisoners.

After her death, she was buried in the parish church of Exaltation of the Holy Cross Poděbrady.
