Kunio Katō

Kunio Katō (Japanese加藤 久 仁 生, Katō Kunio; b. 1977 ) is a Japanese animator.

Katō studied at the School of Art Tama. After graduating in 2001, he began working at the animation studio Robot. Together with other character animator he is there, the collective Robot Cage.

Published in 2003 Katō the Internet the 16 -minute animated film Aru Tabibito no Nikki ( also known under the English title The Diary of Tortov Roddle known ), which follows the journey of Tortov Roddle and his companion, a pig with long feet, through a surreal world. With this film, he participated in the short film competition of the Festival d' Animation Annecy, one of the world's most important festivals for animated films, part, but was able to win only in 2008 with the twelve-minute Tsumiki no ie an award. With this film about an old man who constantly needs to expand his house with new floors to escape the ever rising water level, he won the main prize of the festival, the Cristal d' Annecy. At the Academy Awards in 2009, the film won the award for the " Best Animated Short Film ".
