Kurit Dam

The Kurit Dam ( Bend -e- Kurit, also: Korit ) is an ancient dam in Iran, which was built in 1350.

The arch dam of masonry is at the oasis of Tabas in the Yazd province, south of Mashhad and 620 km south-east of Tehran. It was built during the Ilkhanid Mongols rule in addition to some other dams. She was with her 58 to 64 m height to about 1904, so about 550 years, the highest in the world. In 1850 it was again increased to 4 to 5 to 65 m. It has a length 27 to 28 meters. The wall base was repaired in 1865 with bricks.

The reservoir is now completely silted up, the wall partially broken and no longer available.
