Kurt von Wessely

Kurt Wessely († October 25, 1917 in Vienna, but also Curt von Wessely ) was an Austria - Hungarian tennis player.

Life

A native of Prague from Wessely took 1899-1914 to tennis tournaments. In 1904 he reached the final of the Austrian championships, but it lost to Josiah Ritchie. In the same year he won the tournament in Prague. In 1905 he played in the Davis Cup, but have not won any of his three matches in the encounter with the team of Australia Sien (Australia and New Zealand). From Wessely by Rolf Kinzl was the first Austrian who participated in the tournament of Wimbledon, he never got there, but beyond the second round. In 1909 he won the Austrian International Championships as the first native. Together with Kinzl took Wessely also in the Olympic Games in London in 1908 and four years later in Stockholm part.

Besides tennis operation of Wessely number of sports, including football, field hockey and skiing.

After the outbreak of the First World War, he was drafted as a cavalry lieutenant. After one and a half years, he suffered a Armschuss, the war made ​​him unfit for duty. He died from the effects of the injury caused by thrombosis in Vienna in 1917.
