Kurt Wüsthoff

Kurt Wüsthoff ( born January 27, 1897 in Aachen, † July 23, 1926 in Dresden ) was a German fighter pilot and youngest winner of the Order Pour le Mérite.

Life

Kurt Wüsthoff was first fighter pilot in combat squadron 1 and then enlisted in the hunt aviation, where he first flew in Jasta 4 and later chief of Jasta 15 was. Having already achieved 27 air victories, Wüsthoff was the Royal Air Force and forced taken prisoner with his Fokker D.VII at Cachy to land on June 17, 1918 battle with three British SE5 and Sopwith Dolphin of Squadrons 23 and 24.

On July 18, 1926 Wüsthoff crashed at display flying during the Immelmann Memorial Flight Tags on the airfield Dresden- Kaditz. At an altitude of about 150 meters, it crashed during a stunt flying his plane and was thrown out of this. The aircraft was completely destroyed and the unconscious Wüsthoff suffered a fractured skull and two broken legs. He was taken to the hospital Friedrichstädter. There he had both legs amputated. Wüsthoff came only a few times just to weak consciousness and died five days later from his injuries.

In the district of Neu- Tempelhof district of Berlin's Tempelhof -Schoeneberg the Wüsthoff street is named after him.
