Kutiman

Kutiman ( born 1981, real name Ophir Kutiel ), is an Israeli musician, composer and producer. He was known primarily for his online music video project ThruYOU.

Biography

Kutiel Zichron Yaakov grew up in northern Israel. Since the age of seven he plays the piano, with 14 were added guitar and drums. Kutiel studied at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in Ramat haScharon near Tel Aviv. Through his friend DJ Sabbo he came in contact with styles such as funk and Afrobeat.

His stage name was mainly due to his nickname Kuti, Fela Kuti which also is one of his idols.

Music

Kutiman was taken in 2006 by the Cologne-based independent label Melting Pot Music under contract. His debut album Kutiman was rated by Pitchfork Media with 8.2 of 10 points.

ThruYOU

Larger gained fame Kutiman mainly through its online music video project ThruYOU ( in German through you ), which he published in early 2009. Kutiman composed it solely from numerous extracts from YouTube videos, seven new songs ( mashups ). The project attained within a short time great fame among other things, mentions in blogs.

Spiegel Online ThruYOU referred to as " a virtuoso " and thinks it marked " a new stage in the postmodern game with images and Tonfunden on the net". the daily newspaper sees this as a "high-quality, almost as a postmodern characteristic homage to YouTube, to free creation, musical work and the children of the digital 21st century."
