Kwekwe, also Que Que or Hwe Hwe, in 1900, according to other sources in 1890, founded, is located in the Midlands Province and is now the center of gold mining as well as their direct neighboring town of Redcliffe is one of the centers of the iron and steel industry in Zimbabwe. Kwekwe, the name derives from the croaking of frogs on the banks of the river from Kwekwe, has 93 072 inhabitants ( 2002 census ) and ranks seventh largest city in Zimbabwe. The city is located in Gweru District in the Midlands on the road and the railway line from Gweru to Harare. In Kwekwe -east there is a 1000 -meter runway. Kwekwe is politically exposed. The ZANU controlled gold mining and considerable pressures on the industry to hire more blacks in management positions. Unemployment is considered high in comparison to the possibilities under free development. The political parties MDC and ZANU regularly meet each other violently here.
