Kyrgys Temir Dscholu ( KTJ ) ( Kyrgyz Кыргыз Темир Жолу; Russian Кыргызская железная дорога; German Kyrgyz railway) is the national railway company and national service in passenger and freight Kyrgyzstan. She is a member of the Organization for Cooperation of Railways ( OSJD ).

Route network

The small, operated by the Kyrgyz railway network, a broad gauge network with a track width of 1520 millimeters, includes only a distance total length of 423.9 kilometers. The northern section is 322.7 km long and runs over a length of 60.3 kilometers territory of Kazakhstan. Situated in the south of the country sections, a total of 101.2 km long, but not contiguous, the lines were built before the collapse of the Soviet Union, and now remaining on Kyrgyz territory part is therefore fragmented and dismembered by the boundaries with neighboring states.

Starting points to other railway administrations exist in Lugovoi (Kazakhstan ) and in Karasuu, and Kyzyl - Kiya Taschkumyr (Uzbekistan ).

Passenger trains operate all year round only in the northern section between Lugovoi and Tokmok ( long-distance trains between Bishkek and Lugovoi or local trains in the section Tokmok - Merki ). During the summer season additionally trains run between Bishkek and Balyktschy (formerly Rybatsche ) at the western end of Lake Issyk - Kul Lake. The southern route network in the Kyrgyz- Uzbek border area is traversed only by freight traffic.

History

The history of the Kyrgyz Railways starts on August 8, 1924 with the opening of the line between Lugovoi and the then Pischkek (Bishkek ). Until 1948, the route from Bishkek was extended after Rybatsche.

With the expansion of the Trans- Caspian railway coming sections were extended to Kyrgyzstan from Uzbekistan:

  • Karasuu - Jalal-Abad (1915 )
  • Jalalabad - Kok Dschangak (1932 )
  • Karasuu - Osh (1932 )
  • Margilan - Kyzyl - Kyja (1926 )
  • Utschkurgan - Tash- Kumyr (1935 )

Future Development

Connection of the Chinese to the Kyrgyz and Uzbek railway network

In the future, called the New Silk Road railway line to connect the city located in northwest China's Kashi ( Kashgar ) and the südwestkirgisische city Karasuu together. The 270 km long route leads over the Turugart Pass - Tuzbel Pass - Arpatal - Ösgön after Karasuu. Because of the topographically challenging terrain, the route runs primarily through high mountain country, numerous art buildings are (48 tunnel [49 miles] and 95 bridges [21 kilometers] ) required for construction. The cost is estimated at more than $ 2 billion and should be applied both by government and private investors.

The following effects and advantages be associated with the construction of the railway line:

  • Improved development potential in foreign trade
  • Accelerated economic integration and close collaboration with CAREC countries
  • Tourism Promotion
  • Access to Chinese ports, ports in the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean
  • Industrial and economic development of the Ferghanatals
  • Shortening of the transport routes between East Asia, the Middle East and Southern Europe

Electrification of the railway line Lugovoi - Bishkek (2015-2017)

The electrification of the hitherto most important railway line in Kyrgyzstan means an increase in the maximum speed of now 60 km / h to 120 km / h Like the average speed for passenger trains of 33 km / h to 70-80 km / h and freight trains doubled to 90 km / h Now can find the cheaper domestic hydropower use in place of oil imports for diesel fuel.

Connection between Balyktschy and Jalalabad

To overcome the division of the network into two separate subnets a more than 350 -kilometer railway line between Balyktschy and Jalalabad is planned for a long time. In addition to their connecting function it would serve primarily the development of rich coal deposits to Karaketsche ( Naryn region ). So far, the construction is on hold.

Fleet

From the holdings of the Soviet Railways ( SZD ) total of 2,500 freight cars, 450 cars and 50 diesel locomotives were taken over after dissolution of the USSR. Because rückgängiger transport services for freight as well as passenger 2010, only 1808 freight cars, 434 cars and 43 diesel locomotives were counted. 51 passenger cars and 413 freight cars have been overhauled in maintenance workshops in Russia and Uzbekistan in 2007 and 2008. 2010 and 2011 would further modernization measures of the average 28 -year-old fleet.

Timetables

The operation processing is analogous to the Russian State Railway to Moscow time. All timetables and station clocks each show at the time of the Russian capital.

Transport services

After the independence of Kyrgyzstan from the Soviet Union, industrial production has fallen by 70 percent. In proportion declined after 1991, the goods transport performance of the Kyrgyz Railways. Main transport goods are non-ferrous metals, coal, cotton, cement, grain, sugar and petroleum products.

Passenger rail transport plays only a very minor role. In favor of the more profitable rail freight of passenger deficit has been greatly thinned. This meant that passenger completely set in the south of Kyrgyzstan and the number of trains has been greatly reduced in the north.
