Kyustendil Province

The Oblast Kyustendil ( Bulgarian Област Кюстендил ) has an area of ​​3085 km ² (2.7% of the Bulgarian territory) and a population of 173 889. Administrative, economic and cultural center is the city. The northern and western part of the region has a strong rugged relief - the little-known in Bulgaria Milewska Mountains ( Милевска планина ) Tschudinska Mountains ( Чудинска планина ) Semenska Mountains ( Земенска планина ) and in the east the Konjawska Mountains ( Конявска планина ).

In the south of the region goes to the Lisez Mountains ( планина Лисец ) and the valley of the river Bistrica ( Бистрица ) and to the Osogowo Mountains ( Осоговска планина ) Wlachina Mountains ( планина Влахина ) and the northwestern part of the Rila Mountains ( Рила ).

The water outflow occurs in the Struma River - on the tributaries of the rivers Trekljanska ( Треклянска ) Dragowischtiza ( Драговищица ) Bistriza ( Бистрица ) Slokoschtiza ( Слокощица ) Nowoselska ( Новоселска ) Dzerman ( Джерман ) and the Rila River ( Рила ) from the same mountains.

Near the village Kamenitschka Skakawitza ( с. Каменичка Скакавица ) formed by the River Golemi ( р. Големи ) the 70 m high waterfall Skakawitza ( Скакавица ).

The reservoirs Djakowo ( Дяково ), Bersin ( Берсин ) Drenowdol ( Дреновдол ) and Bagreniz ( Багренци ) are used mainly for irrigation purposes.

The region is heavily forested with mixed forests, which dominate conifers. Besides the village Osogowo lies the 89 -hectare nature reserve Gaba.

Administratively the Kyustendil region is divided into nine municipalities: Kyustendil ( Кюстендил ) Dupniza ( Дупница ) Bobow Dol ( Бобов дол ) Saparewa Banja ( Сапарева баня ), Rila ( Рила ) Kotscherinowo ( Кочериново ) Newestino ( Невестино ) Boboschewo ( Бобошево ) and Trekljano ( Трекляно ) with a total of 182 villages.
