L'Argentière-la-Bessée

L' Argentière- la- Bessée is a commune with 2322 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) at the mouth of Fournel in the Durance. The nearest major town is Briançon and the region is Hautes -Alpes. The name comes from a nearby silver mine that has been exploited since the Middle Ages and in 1908 abandoned. The second part of the name comes from the town of La Bessee, which was incorporated. In addition to the silver mine, even more buildings from the Middle Ages and modern times have been preserved, such as a distinctive clock tower from the 20th century.
