La Bayadère

La Bayadère - The Temple Dancer is a romantic ballet to music by Léon Minkus, in the Indian exoticism and romantic poetry are connected. It is also referred to as " Giselle of the Orient".

Productions

La Bayadère (Russian Bajaderka ) was premiered on February 4, 1877 in St. Petersburg as a ballet in four acts and seven scenes under the artistic direction of Marius Petipa.

The Western Premiere, directed by Eugenia Feodorova, April, 12, 1961 at Theatro Minicipal in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil ) instead. Bertha Rosa Nova danced Nikiya and Aldo Lotufo the Solor. Later followed on July 4, 1961, the guest appearance of the Kirov Ballet in Paris and the first production by the Royal Ballet with Rudolph Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn in 1963.

The German premiere took place on 24 March 1998 at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich with the Bavarian State Ballet as rehearsal by Patrice Bart. Other new productions were made in 2002 in Hamburg and Berlin, and in 2008 at the Saxon State Opera in Dresden with the Semperoper Ballett.

The focus of the ballet is the love between the priestess " Bayadère " Nikija and the noble warrior Solor.
