La Bombonera

La Bombonera, officially Estadio Alberto Jacinto Armando, is a football stadium in the district of La Boca in Buenos Aires ( Argentina). It is the home stadium of the Argentine first division club Boca Juniors. The name " La Bombonera " ( The German chocolate box ) comes from the rectangular shape of the stadium. Since very little space was available for the construction of the stadium, there is along a straight line of the stadium grandstand and a small overlying balconies ( VIP cabins ).

History

La Bombonera was inaugurated on 25 May 1940 a friendly game of Boca Juniors against San Lorenzo ( 2-0).

In the years 1995 and 1996, the stadium was renovated and increasing capacity to 57 395 places. The current official name of Estadio Alberto Jacinto Armando reminiscent of a former president of Boca Juniors. Previously, it was Estadio Camilo Cicher, also for a club president.

Description

The stands are soaring, the distance between the first row of seats from the field is on the short side less than 2 meters. The architecture of the stadium serves as an amplifier for the chants of the fans on match evenings you can hear them all over La Boca. The total capacity of 57.395 seats spread over 37 538, 17 077 standing places and 2780 seats in the VIP cabins. The stadium is adorned with many murals that were painted by the artist Pérez Celis, and represent legendary players of the club as well as the culture of La Boca.

Inside the stadium, there is also a 2001 club opened museum where an entire room is dedicated to the greatest son of the club, Diego Maradona.
