La Chapelle-sur-Erdre

La Chapelle- sur -Erdre is a French town with 17,443 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Loire -Atlantique in the Pays de la Loire. It belongs to the community association Communauté urbaine de Nantes Métropole.

Geography

La Chapelle- sur -Erdre is located on the Erdre in the catchment area of Nantes. Neighboring communities of La Chapelle- sur -Erdre are Treillières the northwest, Sucé -sur -Erdre in the north, the east and Carquefou Orvault in the southwest. History

La Chapelle- sur -Erdre was an independent parish in 1297 and a first chapel called St. Catherine was built.

Culture and sights

La Chapelle- sur -Erdre is represented with two flowers in the Conseil national des villes et villages fleuris ( National Council of flowery towns and villages ). The " flowers " are awarded as part of a regional competition, a maximum of three flowers can be achieved.

The Château de la Mesnerie dates from the 15th century. It is privately owned. In 1985 it was included in the supplementary list of Monuments historiques (historical monuments ).

The Château de la Gascherie was remodeled in the 19th century to a design by the architect Jules de la Morandière ( 1813-1905 ) and Dominique Noisette. Before, it was a mansion of the 15th century. It is privately owned. Since 2001 the castle is entered in the additional list of Monuments historiques.

The Roman Catholic parish of Saint -Jean- d'Erdre -et- Gesvres belongs to the diocese of Nantes and consists of the municipalities of La Chapelle- sur -Erdre, Grandchamp -des- Fontaines and Treillières. In the 1835 -built church of Sainte -Catherine is a chalice and paten of silver one. The liturgical objects were manufactured in 1752 and classified as Monuments historiques in 1993.
