La Couarde-sur-Mer

La Couarde -sur -Mer is a municipality with 1249 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011), on the Ile de Ré on the French Atlantic coast. It is a village on the south coast of the Ile de Ré, opposite the coast of the island of Ile d' Oleron. La Couarde is one of the smaller resorts on the island. The municipality also includes a very small harbor Le Goisil, which is connected via a small fairway with the north coast at Loix. The coastline at La Couarde sur Mer is for the most part a sandy beach with some parts stony ( rocky ) substrate, which makes it possible to collect good mussels and other seafood at low tide. But there are also some small sections with steep coast available.
