La Fouly

La Fouly is a village in the Swiss municipality in the canton of Valais Orsières. It is situated on 1'592 meters above sea level. M. at the end of the Val Ferret.

The place has 81 permanent inhabitants (as of 2008 ) and consists of 100 chalets, 20 apartments, a few hotels and a consecrated Niklaus von Flue chapel. To the east above the village there is a small resort with a chairlift and two ski lifts. The town is at the foot of Mont Dolent, the tri- France, Italy and Switzerland, and the Tour Noir. In Val Ferret is below La Fouly the village Praz de Fort, just above the hamlets Ferret. To the south footpaths lead over the passes Petit and Grand Col Ferret ( 2,490 m and 2'536 m) to Courmayeur in the Aosta Valley.

La Fouly was formerly a mayens Orsières. Summer tourism has developed since the early 20th century. Inhabited year-round the place is only from 1965 onwards, since the access road is cleared in winter. The place is now popular as a starting point for mountain tours and, thanks to its quiet location, with families walking and hiking, skiing.
