La Garde-Adhémar

La Garde- Adhemar is a commune with 1107 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Drôme in the Rhône -Alpes; it belongs to the arrondissement of Nyons and the canton Pierre bar.

The village is classified as one of the plus beaux villages de France ( most beautiful villages in France ).

History

La Garde- Adhemar situated on a cliff that overlooks the Rhone Valley in the amount of Pierre bar. In the Middle Ages the town was an important fortress of the Adhemar family. In the 16th century a Renaissance castle was built by Antoine Escalin, Baron de la Garde, ambassadors and general galley, built, which was destroyed by a tower during the revolution. In this castle lived Pauline de Grignan, Marquise de Simiane, daughter of Françoise de Sévgné, Comtesse de Grignan, and granddaughter of the Marquise de Sévigné.
