La Mer (Debussy)

La Mer, trois esquisses symphoniques pour orchester (Eng. The sea, three symphonic sketches for orchestra) is a composition of Claude Debussy. Started in 1903 in France and completed in 1905 in Eastbourne, it was premiered on 15 October 1905 in Paris by the Orchestre L' amoureux under Camille Chevillard. A performance of the play, which has been dubbed the symphonic poem and symphony, takes about 23 minutes and is a prime example of musical impressionism.
