La Plagne

La Plagne has a ski area with over 220 km of slopes in Savoy (France). It is located above the Tarentaise Valley. Over 110 ski lifts take the slopes of Dome de Belle Cote (La Plagne ) down to 3400 m altitude. As glacier area is considered to La Plagne snow-sure, and many of the slopes are between 2,000 and 3,000 meters. La Plagne, together with Les Arcs Paradiski ski pass composite. The ski areas of La Plagne and Les Arcs linked by the largest passenger ropeway in the world. On nice sunny days can be enjoyed from the summit of the ski area an incomparable view of Mont Blanc.

Bobsled and luge track

As part of the 1992 Winter Olympics in nearby Albertville, the competitions were aligned in luge and bobsledding in La Plagne. For the first artificial ice track in France was built, which can be used for international competitions in bobsleigh and luge today. In addition, bobsleigh for tourists are offered in special slide regularly.

As part of the candidacy of Annecy to host the 2018 Winter Olympics was planned also to discharge the relevant competitions in luge, bobsled and skeleton in La Plagne.

Winter sports

La Plagne has 225 kilometers of pistes 130 runs and 80 km of cross -country ski. The total ski area has 425 km of slopes. The ski resort is open from late December to mid-April for skiing. Numerous hiking trails and other recreational activities complete the offer.

The stations

Plagne Centre (1970 m)

Plagne Centre was the cornerstone of the ski area and was opened in 1961. Initially, the station was only La Plagne, but was renamed in Plagne Centre, as the ski area was expanded by building new stations. Since then, Plagne Centre was the real center of the ski area.

Aime- La Plagne (2100 m)

The station is located in the town of Aime and was completed in December 1969. The large main building of the station is reminiscent of a huge cruise ship.

Plagne Belle Cote (1930 m)

This station was opened in 1974 after it was planned already in 1968. In 1975, the cable car was put into operation, with the Roche de Mio combines the Belle Cote ( 2745 meters). Three years later, the railway was extended to open up the glacier Belle Cote ( 3250 m). This can be reached in 40 minutes from the valley station (the station Belle Côte is located in the ski resort of La Plagne ). Belle Côte is the heart of all Skibewegungen as part of the Paradiski program because from there all the places in the La Plagne ski area can be reached. The building Belle Cote is also the dam (French: la Barrage ) because they strongly reminiscent of such a structure.

Montchavin (1250 m)

Above Montchavin is the Vanoise Express cable car, La Plagne to Les Arcs. In order to maintain a steady connection all the slopes are equipped with snow cannons in this area.

Les Coches ( 1450m )

Les Coches is 200 meters above Montchavin and can be easily reached from there by foot or by cable car.
