La Unión is a town and a municipality in the department of Zacapa in Guatemala. The place is located in the southeast of the department in the mountains of the Sierra del Espíritu Santo. A tarmac road La Unión is connected to the north in the valley of the Río Motagua Gualan located where the Atlantic Highway CA 9 passes from Guatemala City to Puerto Barrios.

The 257 km ² large municipality has around 25,000 inhabitants. It is in a relatively remote, forested area. The population lives mainly on agriculture, especially the cultivation of coffee and oranges.

Adjacent Municipalities are Gualan in the north and Zacapa in the West. In the south it borders the Departamento Chiquimula and on the east by Honduras.
