La Villedieu-en-Fontenette

La Villedieu -en- Fontenette is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Villedieu -en- Fontenette situated at an altitude of 260 m above sea level, 7 km east of Faverney and about 17 km north of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, on a gently sloping hillside to the north, above the trough of the Ruisseau de la Grande Eau, south of the broad valley of the Lanterne.

The area of ​​9.65 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of the south of the Lanterne. The northern part of the municipality is crossed from east to west of the Alluvialniederung the Ruisseau de Meurecourt, which provides drainage for Lanterne. The valley is on average 235 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. To the north of this stream, the Grove of the Bois Lajus expands ( to 263 m).

To the south, the land rises gradually to a plateau, which is constructed from limestone of the Middle Triassic. History

Remains of two Roman roads point to a very early inspection and settlement of the area. Originally called the place Fontenette ( in the meaning of the spring). In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The Hospitallers settled here and founded in 1186 a hospital with the name of Villa dei (House of God). For a long time La Villedieu a pilgrimage to the Saint -Germain d' Auxerre was worshiped. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. At the beginning of the 20th century La Villedieu -en- Fontenette was connected by a tram to the network of public transport. The operation on the line in 1934 was discontinued and replaced by a bus service. Today La Villedieu -en- Fontenette is a member of the comprehensive 17 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Saulx.

Attractions

The Village Church of La Villedieu -en- Fontenette in 1865 rebuilt in the Gothic Revival style. The buildings of the former St. John Coming mostly come from the 17th century, but also show buildings from the 13th and 15th centuries. Today they house the Mairie ( Town Hall) and the school. Additional attractions include a Lavoir and the chapel Barrey (19th century) on the road to Neurey, statuettes has the 17th and 18th centuries.

Population

With 187 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Villedieu -en- Fontenette is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 462 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

La Villedieu -en- Fontenette was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Vesoul to Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse. Further road links exist with Faverney and Luxeuil -les- Bains.
