Labrador City

Labrador City is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, near the border with the province of Quebec. Labrador City and Wabush are often referred to as the Twin Cities. Wabush has the only airport in western Labrador. The following airlines land there: Air Canada Jazz, Air Labrador and Provincial Airlines. The city's motto is, "land of hardworking people."

Labrador City was founded in the 1960s to accommodate employees of the Iron Ore Company.

Economy and infrastructure

The region has high iron ore occur. Accordingly, the economy of the city is of it very marked. In the area's many mining areas are available. The Canadian company Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC ) is in many mining areas. The Carol Project is a large planned iron ore mining project in the area. IOC and its parent company Rio Tinto announced an investment of about 800 million dollars. Due to the global economic crisis and reduced demand for steel, these plans were temporarily suspended. Due to the global economic recovery, the companies announced their expansion and investment in the projects in the near future.

The city has its own airport. The Wabush Airport is served by several regional airlines with smaller machines.

In the city center there are several shops, restaurants and cafe's. The Labrador Mall is the largest shopping center and has 55 shops.
