Formation

Shortly after the release of Autumn's third studio album Opheliac in late 2006, was released in January 2007, the EP Liar / Dead Is the New Alive, with the two albums entitled " Liar" and "Dead Is the New Alive" and numerous remixes of the same. The final track " Unlaced " however, the EP also contained a preview of the announced for March 2007, new album on which the track was finally added ( in a slightly modified form).

As a contrast to actually new album Unlaced and its characteristic, distorted e- violins sound Autumn chose her in 1997 at the age of 17 years and recorded in 2000 at the own label, Traitor Records posted debut album On a Day ... as a re-release of the album still add.

" I felt did it made a nice contrast to the metal shredding fiddle album, " Unlaced ", and there was really nothing I could do did what more at the polar end of things. I also loved that it what the perfect representation of "then" versus " now". "

"I felt it was nice contrast to the metal shredding fiddle album," Unlaced " and there was really nothing I could do, what would have been entgegensätzlicher. I also liked very much that it "back then" against was the perfect representation of "today". "

The double album was finally published on 9 March 2007 as a limited edition of 2,000 pieces hardcover edition in DIN A5 format with a 20 -page booklet, which in addition to pictures of the artist and her electric violin and personal illustrations, such as hand-written sheet music, drawings and notes contains. After this edition was sold out, the album was re-released on 15 June 2007 as a jewel case version.

Music

Characteristic of the music of the two parts of the album is both the waiver of any song, as well as the central importance of the instruments violin and harpsichord, performed acoustically on Laced and were electronically amplified to Unlaced or synthetically produced.

Laced

As a re-release of their debut album On a Day ... reflects Laced Autumn's early classical music training at the violin and other string instruments resist. Laced contains nine compositions of Baroque composers, such as Arcangelo Corelli, Diego Ortiz, Johann Sebastian Bach and Jean -Marie Leclair, also five self-composed pieces which musically strongly oriented towards the former and have already been composed by Autumn at the age of 17. In the last five declared as bonus tracks pieces also are live recordings of a concert in 1997. Autumn itself plays on Laced the baroque violin, while being supported by their accompanying musicians, the Parlor Council, on the lute, baroque cello and harpsichord.

Unlaced

After Autumn already joined her original style with elements of electronic music on their album Opheliac, they developed this style on Unlaced further. Thus, the electric violin is no longer used only as an accompanying instrument, but is the characteristic feature of the music, especially due to the highly distorted sound, the Autumn generated by the otherwise applied only in electric guitars shredding technique. The consequent sonic proximity to metal music causes is often mistakenly assumed that the music was recorded with an electric guitar. The artist himself often speaks also of their " shredolin " ( pun engl. " Shredding " and " violin" ) and referred to their music as Violindustrial or Victoriandustrial, although proximity to Industrial is only partially available.

Characteristic of Unlaced is especially the nearly continuous interplay of harpsichord and electric violin and based on breakbeats and drum -and- bass rhythm elements. The harpsichord was unlike Laced, simulating electronically with a synthesizer, and the overall sound with various effects units distorted / changed. Only the last, designed as an e- violin solo track "Face the Wall" without these elements and also provides a musical recourse is to the first track of Laced ( " La Folia " ), as various topics are varied from it.

Reception

Laced / Unlaced was reacted favorably by critics. Exposed to this " extremely successful combination of graphics and sound, [ and ] of classical and modern music " as showing how the album was in particular the need to represent two incompatible opposites. This is especially due to the outstanding skills of the artist in dealing with acoustic violin and electric violin. On Laced show the skillful interpretation and the individual arrangement of the classical pieces the compositional talent Autumns at a young age. The later formed and composed of Autumn alone, rehearsed and produced Unlaced was performed successfully despite the lack of (and actually for Autumns Music characteristic ) song and great job.

Both in music and in shaping the preference Autumns for Japanese Visual Kei and J - Rock bands like Malice Mizer or Moi dix Mois could be seen as already in the previous album Opheliac. Particularly well received also found the complex and personal design of the extensive booklets, especially in the form of the hardcover edition of the Limited Edition.
