Ladislav Zgusta

Ladislav Zgusta ( born March 20, 1924 in Libochovice, † April 27, 2007 in Urbana, Illinois) was a Czech linguist, Indo-Europeanist, classical scholar, researcher name and lexicographer with U.S. citizenship.

Zgusta studied at the Universities of Prague and Brno Classical Languages ​​, Indology and Comparative Indo-European Linguistics. From 1951 to 1967 he worked at the Prague Academy of Sciences. From 1968 to 1970 he taught comparative linguistics at the University of Brno. In 1970, he fled to India in the United States. There he taught briefly at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, and then went in 1971 to the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign, where at the Center for Advanced Studies he worked until 1995, in 1987 as its director. The manual prepared in Czechoslovakia of Lexicography 1971 was an epoch-making book of dictionary research that made him world-famous.
