Ladysmith is a city in South Africa in the community Emnambithi - Ladysmith, Uthukela District, KwaZulu -Natal. 2011, it had 64 855 inhabitants. The city was founded in 1847 by Boers. A few months later, she was placed under British administration.

Ladysmith after Juana Smith, the Spanish wife of the then British Governor of the Cape Colony, Sir Harry Smith, named.

In the Boer War the city was besieged for 118 days of Buren in 1900, until it was liberated by British troops under the command of General Redvers Buller. The British garrison was thereby commanded by George Stuart White.

Main industries of the city are food processing, textiles and tire manufacturing.

Attractions

In 1893 built town hall are the two historic cannons " Castor " and " Pollux ", which recall the time of the Boer War. Furthermore, the local Hindu community has the Indian independence hero Mahatma Gandhi, who had spent some years in South Africa, a monument erected in Ladysmith in 1993.
