Lago di Cavazzo

The Cavazzo Lake (Italian: Lago dei Tre Comuni ( lake of the three municipalities) or Cavazzo, furl. Cjavaç Lac di ) is the largest natural lake in the Italian Friuli- Venezia Giulia.

Geography

The lake has a surface area of 1.18 km ², a circumference of 6.5 km, a length of 2.25 km and a maximum width of 800 m. The greatest depth of the water is 39 m, the average depth is 12 m.

Three municipalities have shares in the sea: the north and west it is Cavazzo Carnico, in the east and in the south Bordano Trasaghis.

Hydrographic

During the last ice age, the depression began to emerge, in what today is the lake. The conglomerate deposit that separates the lake in the north of the river Tagliamento Valley, also dates from this time. Previously, the valley of the Cavazzo lake was traversed by a tributary of the Tagliamento. Today, the lake is fed by the dam at Ambiesta / Verzegnis, from which a 8.5 km long tunnel to Cavazzo Lake was driven through the rock in the construction of a hydropower plant.

The inflow is a channel, the first runs underground and then Leale runs superficially torrent. The incoming water has a temperature of only 10 ° C so that the temperature of the seawater is lowered. Only a few species can live under these conditions.

Outflow is to the south in the Tagliamento.

Flora and Fauna

The reeds consists mainly of reeds and covered the southern part of the lake. It is used by the fish of the sea to reproduce. Among the fish species in the lake include carp, tench and eel, bleak chub, perch, minnow, three-spined stickleback, brook trout and rainbow trout. In the reeds nesting bittern, Least Bittern and Mallard. Permanent residents of the lake are also common moorhen and kingfisher. During the bird migration raced Teal, Garganey and Shoveler, bean goose and pintail on the lake.

In the area around the water, the Horned puff adder is the western limit of distribution.

Tourism

In the recent past there have been interventions in the landscape and environmental improvement to enhance the tourism. Accommodation facilities on the lake provide accommodation. In addition to enjoying the beautiful scenery there is also the opportunity for water sports, fishing and hiking in the area of ​​Seetales. The presence of a butterfly path described with ten panels contributes significantly to the enhancement of friendly tourism. It runs on the east bank between the villages Interneppo and Bordano directly at the foot of Monte Simeone.

Infrastructure

A motorable road asphalt allows the walk around the lake and offers beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

The A23 (Italy ), also called the Alps-Adriatic highway leads west past near the lake and crosses the north-west end of the lake.

North of the lake there is the hydroelectric plant Somplago which water after it has passed through the turbines, derived in the lake.
