Laird Howard Barber

Laird Howard Barber ( born October 25, 1848 Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, † February 16, 1928 in Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Laird Barber attended the Mifflinburg Academy and thereafter until 1871, the Lafayette College in Easton. Between 1875 and 1880 he worked as a teacher. After studying law and his 1881 was admitted to the bar he began in Mauch Chunk, now Jim Thorpe place to work in this profession. He was also chairman and host of the school committee in 1890. He was also secretary of the local council. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1898 Barber was in the seventh election district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican William Sebring Kirkpatrick on March 4, 1899. Since he resigned in 1900 to another candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1901. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Barber practiced as a lawyer first again. Since 1913 he was Chief Judge of the 56th Judicial District of the State of. This office he held until his death on 16 February 1928.
