Lajos Baróti

Lajos Baróti [ lɒjoʃ bɒro ː ti ] ( born August 19, 1914 in Szeged, † 23 December 2005, Budapest) was a Hungarian football player and coach. With a total of eleven major titles, he is one of the most important coaches of his time.

Career

Lajos Baróti played from 1928 to 1946 Szeged AK and 1946-1948 for Gyori ETO. Between 1939 and 1941 he was appointed twice to the Hungarian national football team.

In 1957 he took over the post of head coach of the national team. Until 1966, and again in 1975-1978, he oversaw the team in a total of 117 internationals. He led the team to four times World Cups ( 1958, 1962, 1966, 1978). 1960 at the Olympic Games in Rome and at the European Championships in 1964, he came third. At the European Championships Hungary was defeated in the semi-finals after extra time the hosts and tournament winners Spain 1-2. The greatest success as a coach he had at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he won the gold medal.

1971-72 he was in charge once the short term the Peruvian national football team.

His most successful period as a club coach he spent at Újpesti Dózsa.
