Lajos Winkler

Lajos Winkler ( Deutsch.: Ludwig Wilhelm Winkler ) ( born May 21, 1863 in Arad, † April 14, 1939 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian chemist and pharmacist. He developed a method in 1888 is still frequently used for the determination of dissolved oxygen in the water.

Life

Winkler studied chemistry at the University of Budapest and received his PhD in 1890, Károly Than. After a short time as an assistant, he was in 1902 appointed professor of chemistry and in 1909 appointed as successor to the late Than of Head of the Chemical Institute. 1922 Winkler became a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
