Lake Chebarkul

The Tschebarkulsee (Russian озеро Чебаркуль ) is a lake in the Chelyabinsk region on the eastern edge of the Ural Mountains in Russia.

Geography

The Tschebarkulsee lies immediately west of the city named after him Chebarkul, about 70 km as the crow west-southwest of Chelyabinsk Oblastzentrums and about 20 km southeast of the city Miass. The lake has an area of 19.8 km ².

The most important tributary is the Kunguruscha from the southwest. The catchment area of the lake covers 169 km ². The in the southeast of the lake leaving Kojelga ends after 59 km in the Uwelka and is part of the river system of the Ob.

Traffic

Events

On February 15, 2013, the frozen lake was hit by a fragment of a meteorite, which caused a hole with a diameter of 6 to 10 meters. Found around the hole particles of stone meteorites had a size of 5 to 10 mm. The meteorite was named after the nearest village Chebarkul.

On October 16, 2013, a meteorite fragment was recovered with the weight of about 570 kg from the lake deposits.
