Lake EÄŸirdir

The Eğirdir Gölü ( Eğirdir Lake) is the fourth largest lake and the second largest freshwater lake in Turkey.

Name

The lake is named after the city shore Eğirdir. Their name derives from the Turkish pronunciation Eğridir their old Greek name Akrotiri, but in Turkish means as much as " crooked ", was officially changed so that in the 1980s the name of the city and lake in Eğirdir.

Location

The lake is located in the province of Isparta, about 186 kilometers north of Antalya. It is divided on the Hoyran - Seeenge into two parts, the smaller northern part is also called Hoyran Gölü.

In the southern part there are two former islands, Can Ada (Turkish: life island) and Yesil Ada (Turkish: Green Island ), which are connected by a paved road with the city Eğirdir.
