Lake Nipissing

The Lake Nipissing (French Lac Nipissing ) is a lake in the Canadian province of Ontario.

It lies between the Ottawa River and Georgian Bay and is the fifth largest lake Ontario. With an average depth of 4.5 m of Lake Nipissing is extremely shallow. He has numerous islands.

The city with the largest population is on the northeastern shore of the lake situated North Bay (about 52,000 inhabitants). The first European who sighted the lake, in 1610 was the French explorer Étienne Brûlé. Nipissing means in the language of the aborigines "big water " (see Algonquian languages).
