The tributary is the river Krka, which supplies the lake with fresh water. As the lake is also connected to the Adriatic Sea, flows with the tides and salt water in the lake. It so happens that in the deeper layers mainly salt water is found and in the upper layers rather fresh water. In places, however, this ratio is reversed - and where ground water wells up from the sea floor.
