Krka National Park

Unique waterfalls

The Croatian National Park Krka covers an area of 109 km ² the 45 -kilometer section of the river Krka between Knin and Skradin and the lower reaches of the creek Čikola. The national park was founded in 1985. Admission is free of charge.

Flora and Fauna

In the national park is home to a total of about 860 plant species and 220 animal species.

In addition to one of the largest bat colonies in Europe live in the lake area of ​​the river and swamps many amphibians, reptiles and rocks in the Gehölzern and in the river 18, including ten endemic species of fish. Waterfalls

The Skradinski buk is composed of Rauwackenbarrieren, islands and lakes, which can be due to a network of paths and bridges that make a pleasant and safe walk, visited.

In the middle reaches of the Krka river whose banks were reforested large areas in the National Park area. Between Roški and Skradinski buk is situated in the same lake the Visovac that counts at the same time to the most important natural and cultural treasures of the Republic of Croatia. On your is since 1445 the Franciscan Monastery of the merciful Mother of God and the Church of the Mother of God Visovacer. The monastery is a unique ambientale unit with the beautiful scenery of lakes Visovacer. Throughout the turbulent history of Visovac was and she remained an island of peace and prayer, while the Franciscan demonstrated a fortress of spirituality and faith. The monastery has an important archaeological collection, a collection of historic church clothes and a rich library with several historical manuscripts, rare books and incunabula, including an edition of Aesop's fables from the 15th century. Because of the centuries-long devotion to the Mother of God Visovac is also called Mother of God Island. In the National Park there is also a Serbian Orthodox monastery from the 14th century.
