Risnjak National Park

The National Park Risnjak ( ris called on Croatian Lynx ) was declared on 15 September 1959, National Park, the total area is 3198 hectares and it is located in the western part of the mountain region of Gorski Kotar in northwest Croatia.

The highest peak is 1,528 m of Veliki Risnjak. He is about 15 km air distance from the coast. From the summit presents itself, especially on a clear day, a view of the Kvarner Bay, the Nature Park Učka, the offshore islands and north to Snežnik in Slovenia and the Karawanken. In the National Park the Kupa, which forms at about 100 km border with Slovenia and after 296 km flows near Sisak in the Save springs.

In this wooded mountain massif live in the wild brown bears, wolves, lynx, eagles and other protected species.

Due to numerous hiking trails long walks can be taken in the national park. To visit the National Park an entrance fee must be paid.

Pop culture

The French horror film High Lane from 2009 is set in the mountains of the National Park Risnjak.
