Lake Robertville

Power plant Bévercé receives water through a pressure tunnel

The dam Robertsville and the corresponding water- hydraulic and electro-hydraulic installations were built on the basis of a State Decree of the Kingdom of Belgium in 1924.

The location

The dam is located on the floor of the church Weismes below Ovifat and Robertsville. Situated on a hill warcheabwärts, 800 meters walk from the dam stands the castle Reinhard stone.

The construction

The construction was (later Electrabel) taken only in December 1925 by the energy distribution companies SERMA in attack. The construction period was three years. During this time the dam was completed. Also, a 4.5 kilometer long tunnel, followed by a pressure line was built by one mile in this time with a slope of 53 meters. Here is located at an altitude of 443 meters, a highly visible surge tank from which the water falls 100 meters down to the power plant Bévercé in a pressure line.

The reservoir has an area of 67 hectares and a capacity of 7.676 million cubic meters. The dam has a height of 54.50 and a length of 182 meters. The road from Robertsville to Malmedy leads over the dam. The width of the dam at the crown is 4 meters, the width at the foot of the wall 38 meters, which means the wall can be qualified as a gravity dam. On the south bank overflow is set up.

Over the bridge Haelen connects the N 676 the districts Robertsville and Bruyéres the community Weismes. On Seeanfang a one-lane bridge connects the districts Outrewarche and Champagne.

Since the fall of 2006 will find extensive renovation work on the dam instead of temporary evacuations of the reservoir.

Economic use

The main purpose is to supply the town of Malmedy with drinking water. The generation of electric current in Bervercé is sporadic.

The hydroelectric plant has a Bévercé Francis turbine with a horizontal axis. The average annual output of 21,500,000 kilowatt hours is achieved with three alternators.

Tourist use

South of the town center Robert Ville is located on a promontory a tourist complex with swimming pool and camping. In addition to the dam is a boat rental. Since the reservoir of drinking water is used, no motor boats are allowed.

The trails around the reservoir are integrated into the dense network of roads in eastern Belgium. 2007, the new trail Warche tour to the dam Bütgenbach was established.
