Lake Tempe

The Danau Tempe is a lake in the district ( kabupaten ) in the province of South Sulawesi Wajo, Indonesia. The lake is about 7 km away from the city ( Kota ) Sengkang. The lake is home to rare Süswasserfischarten. Characteristic are on the floating houses of the fishermen on the lake. The region around the lake is considered the region of origin of the Bugis.

Fishing Festival

Every year on August 23, there will be a festival of the fishermen ( from Buginese population Maccera Tappareng called ) on the lake. The ritual is to effect cleaning of the lake. These cattle are disassembled. In addition, boat racing, kite flying and regional Miss and Mister contest ( Anak Dara and Kalollo ) discharged and shown traditional music and dance performances by transvestites ( bissú ). The participants wear this traditional clothing buginesische, the Baju Bodo.
