Lalbenque

Lalbenque is a commune with 1651 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Lot in the Midi-Pyrénées region. It belongs administratively to the Arrondissement of Cahors and the Canton Lalbenque, whose capital it is.

Geography

The municipality is situated approximately 15 kilometers south-east of Cahors, in the southwest corner of the Regional Natural Park of Causses du Quercy. Neighboring communities of Lalbenque are:

  • Laburgade in the north,
  • Cremps and Escamps in the Northeast,
  • Vaylats and Belmont -Sainte- Foi in the east,
  • Labastide -de- Penne in the southeast (already in Tarn- et- Garonne)
  • Belfort -du -Quercy in the south,
  • Montdoumerc in the southwest,
  • Fontane in the west and
  • Cieurac in the northwest.

Lalbenque is located at the junction of the limestone plateau of the Causse de Limogne, in the Quercy blanc landscape that extends further south to the Garonne valley. While in the northwestern municipality still prevail karst landscape and dry streams, southern municipality is already used intensively for agriculture. At the southern border of the river Lemboulas runs.

Transport links

The place is located off of major transport links and is served by the road department D19. The A20 motorway is just outside the western boundary of the municipality, as well as the railway line from Montauban to Cahors, the stop - Lalbenque Fontane operates the hamlet Conquefaunes. Also the Aerodrome de Cahors Lalbenque airport bears the name of the community, although it is not located in the municipality.
