Lamberts Bay ( Afrikaans: Lamberts Bay ) is a town in the municipality Cederberg, West Coast District, Western Cape Province in South Africa. The small town with 6120 inhabitants ( 2011), lies on the coast west of Clanwilliam and about 220 kilometers north of Cape Town.

Main sources of income are fishing and tourism. The place is known for the captured crayfish here, which are offered in large open-air restaurants; he is destination of many Cape Town at the weekend. A Crawfish Festival is held annually in late November. There are also many water sports and other leisure activities. Also noteworthy is the Bird Island Bird by Bird Iceland Iceland Nature Reserve. It is located in the harbor and is home to thousands of seabirds.

History

The first settlement by immigrants was made in 1800. In 1913, the region was renamed in Lamberts Bay, after Sir Robert Lambert, 1820-1821 naval commander of the Cape. The bay was the site of the only British warship lost in the Second Anglo-Boer War, as the cruiser HMS Sybille Apollo-class was stranded here on January 16, 1901 due to a navigation error and lost.

Municipal law was the place in 1969.
