Lambert Orkis

Lambert Orkis (* 1946 in Philadelphia, PA) is an American pianist. It is characterized among other things by versatility: one hand, he is since 1988 piano accompanist violinist Anne- Sophie Mutter at their concerts with chamber music repertoire (mainly violin sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms and Franz Schubert). For published by Deutsche Grammophon recording of all the Beethoven or Mozart's violin sonatas, the two artists were given a " Grammy " or the French prize " Choc de l' année ".

On the other hand, he accompanied the cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich eleven years in connection with any concert appearances and was from that during his time as chief conductor of the " National Symphony Orchestra" ( Washington, DC) with a specially created for him now a " First Press -instrumentalist commitment " of the orchestra.

At the same time he led concerts with period instruments, dealt with the other hand contemporary music. In this context, he has collaborated with the cellist (or cellists ) Lynn Harrell, Anner Bylsma and Daniel Müller- Schott and with the violinist Julian Rachlin and Jaap Schroeder.

The contemporary composer George Crumb, Richard Wernick and James Primrosch created their own works for him.

Lambert Orkis has been a professor of piano at the "Ester Boyer College " Temple University in Philadelphia.
