Lamberto Zannier

Lamberto Zannier ( born June 15, 1954 in Fagagna ) is an Italian diplomat. Since July 1, 2011 he has been Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Life

After studying law at the University of Trieste, he was from 1976 to 1979 the legal staff of the FAO. He then entered the Italian diplomatic service and was used to the Embassy in the United Arab Emirates, Austria and the Netherlands. In 1991 he was seconded to NATO, where he was responsible for Disarmament Affairs (until 1997). There, he worked for the OSCE from 2000 to 2002 he was Permanent Representative of Italy to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague. From 2002 to 2006 he worked for the OSCE in Vienna. Then he returned to the Foreign Ministry in Rome until he succeeded the German Joachim Rücker took over the leadership of UNMIK (United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo) on 20 June 2008. He is married and has two children.
