Lambi (Greek Λάμπη, ( f sg ) ) is one of two municipal districts of the municipality of Agios Vasilios in southern Crete. By 2010, it bastand as an independent municipality in the prefecture of Rethymno. The former headquarters Spili has 2001 564 inhabitants.

Geography

Geographical Location

Lambi is located on the south coast of Crete at the Libyan Sea. She was the most south-eastern municipality of Rethymno prefecture, to the east by the Regional District of Heraklion.

The municipality is bounded on the north by the mountain Soros ( 1186 m) and from Kedros Massif (1776 m). To the south lie on the coast, Asideroto massif ( 1136 m) and Mount Vouvala ( 947 m). Most villages in the municipality are located at West eastbound river valleys ( Kissamos, Akoumianos ) between the mountain ranges. To the east is close to the output of the valley of the river Platis, the resort of Agia Galini. Further west lie the resorts of Agios Georgios and Agios Pavlos. The municipal area also includes the uninhabited Paximadia islands in the bay of Messara.

Neighboring communities

Lambi is bordered ( clockwise starting in the west ) to the district Finikas, in Rethymno, Amari and the district Tymbaki in the municipality of Phaistos.
