Lancashire League (football)

The Lancashire League was a football league in North West England, which was around the turn of the 19th century into the 20th century. Meanwhile, there is a competition for reserve teams in the field of Non -League Football same name.

History

The Lancashire League was founded in 1889 after it had been shown on the example of a year earlier established Football League, a league that operation is successfully carried out. In the championship mainly came to teams from the district of Lancashire, but also teams from neighboring regions belonging to the participants of the competition. Over time, some teams left the competition, to join the Football League. After 14 years, the championship went to the Lancashire Combination, the name was first obtained as the second- highest division of this league.

In 1939, a renewed competition founded under the name Lancashire League, which was intended for reserve teams in the Football League representatives from Lancashire. After a playing time of the operation was discontinued due to the war. 1949 there was a new edition as a junior competition. Increasingly, were also reserve teams in from the Non -League Football. After insertion of a championship for youth teams by the Football League this came out from the competition, so that competing since 1998 only reserve teams in the field of Non -League football against each other.
